A must... The Antiques village
L’Isle sur la Sorgue is the third most important center in Europe for Antiques and Flea Market. It brings together nearly 250 antique dealers during the whole year, and gathers around 450 professionals at the international fair Art & Antiques, animating the city twice a year (Easter & August 15th).
The Market of L’Isle sur la Sorgue
Throughout the year, a typical Provençal market invades the city on Thursday and Sunday mornings, with all kinds of products. It is a pleasure to stroll through the streets and along the canals that run along the Sorgue ! Every years, the floating market takes place the first Sunday of August. It is a faithful reconstruction of the old markets, in old period clothes. The nego chin (traditional boat with a flat bottom) drift on the Sorgue and give you the opportunity to buy their product (tapenade, vegetables, ...).
The Senanque Abbey
The monastery is still active and the Cistercian manks still live there producing honey, lavender essence, and liqueurs. Offices are celebrated either in the abbey church or in the community chapel.
From mid-june to mid-july, the lavender flowers will inspire you, giving the abbey its own particular cachet...
